John Paul Ashenfelter
TransitionPoint is John Paul's web application consultancy. TransitionPoint currently focuses on Ruby on Rails and data applications in the education, healthcare, government and non-profit worlds.
John Paul's background: John Paul started hacking games in the 80s, and started working with the web when Marc Andreessen was still upstairs in the lab at UIUC. He met DHH and Dave Thomas over dinner the night before they released the first book on Rails. He joined his first startup in 1999 and raised VC for his own startup accelerator in 2000. The last company he cofounded built integrated developer learning environments working directly with the education teams at GitHub and Docker. In his opinion, the most successful company so far is the Friendly City Food Coop here in Harrisonburg. He was part of the founding team, served as the treasurer for over a decade, and is still on the board.
